I currently have DDR3 2x4gb Kingston HyperX 1600mhz. My current motherboard doesn't allow memory above 1600mhz, but I just recieved my new one that allows up to 2800+. I was planning on just buying the same kit to add up to 16gb, but I noticed that the 1866mhz is cheaper than the 1600mhz of Kingston HyperX.

I'm very ignorant when it comes to memory so that leads to my question of would it be okay to mix and match them if I were to buy the 1866mhz kit? Or should I just ditch my current memory and get 2x8gb sticks of high end memory. If so what would you suggest?

I use my PC for gaming purposes mostly so I don't need anything unnecessary, just looking to better the performance of my computer.

It might downgrade your new ram to slowest ram speed (which in this case is 1600). My recommendation is to buy a completely new kit and sell old ram.
