Hello,

I realize this question may have been asked but I can't seem to find a thread that relates exactly to my problem so I sincerely appreciate your help!

My situation is this. My hard drive crashed and I got the 850 EVO SSD to run as my replacement internal drive. No cords came with it, or they were lost when it was given to me as a xmas present. I went a bought a Sata to sata cable, so I have that. I also have Windows 10 on a bootable USB.

The first thing I did was plug in the hard drive to a SATA internal port, SATA to SATA, and stick in the Samsung Wizard DVD. Didn't work, told me I have no bootable drives, which makes sense. So then I stuck in the USB stick, booted with that, entered the serial, and the Windows 10 Start up guide then asked where to install Windows 10. The SSD is not showing up as an option to install it to! I don't see the SSD in BIOS at all either... What do I do?

Thanks for your help!!!

System Specs: This is a desktop that I built myself. I have an AMD Phenom II 965 Processor (3400 MHZ), ASUS M5A97 R 2.0 motherboard with ASUS BIOS version 2201 x64, 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GEFORCE 560 graphics card, and standard USB ports and DVD drives

If you have the cable, it should work as well, yes. Look, this guide looks easy enough, just in case i wasn't clear enough (which often I'm not) with my explanation: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/storage/how-format-ssd-3588491/

Good luck getting your new SSD working : )

You may need first to format the SSD in an operating computer. Thath happened to me as well with 850 EVO 250g. There are some easy guides to follow step by step, but You'll need a working computer in order to do so, I'm afraid.

(And No, samsung SSD comes with NO sata cable, which is a shame)

I think not. You can use your SATA to SATA cable and put your SSD in a computer tha already works. Tehn you'll go to disk management, and you'll see the SSD but wont appears as a "classic" disk, like /C or /E. You'll just see the Samsung SSD 250g volume, and ocne there you can format it to C/ (or whatever you desire to name it). Once you've done that, you can plug it back in the original PC. You'll need then the OS USB, which should be plugger as well to install the operating system in your SSD.

OK. That makes sense. Only problem is that my other working computer is a laptop so I can't easily reach an internal SATA, just USB ports. Can I do the same thing by plugging the SSD into a USB port on my working laptop?
