As the title says. I mostly use it for gaming, school, and streaming and I am fully aware that even an i7-4790k may be on the upper end of all I'll ever nee but with the i7-6700k using a different socket I wasn't sure if there was any reason to get that other then having the newer technology.

6700K will give you the option to go over to DDR4 which is becoming the new std in ram, so really just newer tech. Performance difference is not much.

DDR4 had higher stock clock speeds and the price has gone down substantially since it's release.

Since you're gaming probably not an issue for you but technically the 6700k has much better integrated graphics. So people can reasonably get away with not using a dedicated video card (and save some good money).
