I am starting to thing about replacing my AMD Phenom 955 Black with another machine. I havent been following hardware as much as I used to. This will be the 6th box I have built.
Primary use would be gaming and video conversion (HandBrake for converting video formats for my Plex Server on my Synergy NAS).
So I am thinking its time to shift from AMD over to Intel for the better math.
My budget is in the 1200 range, its flexible.
I wont be getting any new monitor, I'll reuse my existing one. In the future, obviously I will upgrade, so I want to be future proof, but I figure that is the graphics card.
I will be switching from Radeon to a GeForce for power savings. I dont intend to SLI, I havent yet, I just limp along and replace my graphics card every now and then (last upgrade a 6850). My system has hit its limits running Fallout4, I get messages from W7 about turning Aero off, etc. I also know it is well past time to upgrade the video card.
I will not be overclocking.
I want to build a smaller box.
To that end I have been looking at this Micro-ATX case. I like it.

I dont mind future proofing with the CPU. To that end, after looking at the CPU article, I am leaning towards the Xeon.
Intel Xeon Processor E3-1231V3B 3.4 4 LGA 1150 (BX80646E31231V3). A little power savings (no wasted onboard graphics) and threading. The more I think about it, the more this choice is screaming at me. Less cost, less power, less cooling need (I would think).
I also see some 6 core ones for a bit more, which gets me into Haswell-E with more cache, DDR4.
Mostly my concerns are what I dont know. I obviously have some video card length issues with the smaller case.
Am I at the point where I need to go water cooling?
I read through this, http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2919945/compact-gaming.html but this is mini-itx, and I think its a smaller cube, so I dont know about his issues vs what I want for a micro-ATX.
Am I making future 4K gaming an impossibility with this form factor case?
Please educate me.
