Got some problem...please help

Recently i decided to buy a new motherboard so i got Gigabayte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 LGA1150 intel motherboard.i got the core-i5 2320 cpu.on the website of the shop it was written that the board is competible with core-i5 cpu's...now when i was installing the cpu i noticed that the socket of the board isnt competible with this cpu the notches arent fit the slots on the cpu plate...please help me...is this cpu (core i5 2320)competible with this motherboard (Gigabayte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 LGA1150 )

No. That CPU (socket 1155) is not compatible with that motherboard (socket 1150). As RGD1101 states, there are six generations of Intel Core series processors.

When deciding to upgrade, you first need to make sure the CPU and the motherboard have the same socket. Then you need to verify the the CPU you have/want is actually supported by the motherboard you have/want by checking the motherboard's CPU Support List, found on the motherboard manufacturer's web site.

There are different 6 different generation of i5 and that not one of them that support that cpu.
It not hard at all go to the motherboard manfuacterer website
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4968# and look at the cpu support list
