Hey guys! Recently I've been thinking about upgrading my computer and was wondering, what are some things i should use to make sure that i can more future proof my system. I am a gamer and that is the reason i use my pc mostly. I was thinking that an intel sky-lake chip is a must and that an Nvidia 980ti is also a step in the right direction, oh and a fully modular power supply! I am fully open to suggestions on what card or cpu would be good. Thank you for your help and opinion! :)

Using high end parts is your best hedge against your build becoming obsolete quickly. Things like the PSU, monitor, case and drives can be used for multiple builds, so I would get good quality parts. The newest generation processors from Intel and the Z170 chipset would be my pick for longevity right now. I would pair a 6700K with an ASUS or Gigabyte Z170 motherboard that has the features you want and a PSU from EVGA, XFX, or Seasonic, probably around 850 to 1000 watts to allow for future upgrades such as SLI and overclocking.
No such thing as future proof, just extending it's lifespan, and that's all about spending the most money now.

If you're only gaming, an Skylake i5 unlocked, a z110 motherboard, 16Gbs of ram (DDR4) and a gtx 980ti are the safest bets.

That'll run you like $1500 at least though.
