Hey everybody smarter than me,

I purchased an i7-6700k CPU and when it got here, it didn't come with a stock cooler like I thought. In a rush to get this going, I paid too much money to overnight a CPU Cooler for this thing and I think I made a big mistake. I purchased a Noctua NH-L9I CPU cooler, and just noticed it is rated for 65W Max TDP, and the CPU is 91W.
My CoolerMaster 120 Advance Case only allows for a 65mm cooler, but I was trying to go a bit lower than that to allow for air circulation.

My questions are:
A. Can I use this cooler still if I dont plan on overclocking? The case sits in an enclosed desk with some venting fans, but will probably be much warmer than sitting in the open.

B. If I am screwed, any suggestions for one that will fit my needs? (I was hoping to OC up to 200mhz, so not much. (But I wont OC if I can use the Noctua).

I will have to overnight another one, so I am open to any quick suggestions.

Solution
I can't say for sure because I've never used that specific Noctua cooler, but I have used Noctua coolers in the past and they perform extremely well so you may find that it will work. However if you want to return it un-opened then that might be wise as if you want to overclock you are inevitably going to draw more heat. If you need a really low height cooler, for an ITX type cooler this would be one of my preferred choices:

Zalman cnps2x, it's very small, reasonably quiet and it's rated up to 120w.

Solution
If you want to try the L9I, go ahead.
Test with OCCT which will end the test if temperatures reach 85c.
Under normal conditions you will not reach those temperatures unless your app is folding or such.

I think perhaps the best low profile cooler under 66mm might be the big shuriken.
