I recently purchased an alienware x51 r3, it has an i5 6600k, i looked up the specs and I dont know what to look for about upgrading the ram. Currently it has 8gb. How much ram can I install and what is a decent brand of gaming ram I should run,not looking to spend a ton of money. Thanks for any help

Who told you that???

To run Fallout 4 the developers recommend that the computer has at least 8GBs inside. I own Fallout 4 and the game uses at most 5.2GB of my 2x4GB Vengeance Dual Channel RAM, I run on high-ultra with hardly any issues (its still a bit buggy but most of the memory bugs have been fixed).

Whoever told you 8GB of RAM sucks is a fool!
Firstly what are your reasons for wanting to upgrade as their is now game out there that uses all 8GB and anyways the OS takes about 1GB for itself.
The most I have seen a game use is 5Gb which were Fallout 4 and Far Cry 4.

Laptops can be hard to upgrade as some laptops can be hard to access, some are user friendly as the manufactures know the user will want to open up the laptop at some point so some parts of the bottom of the laptop can be opened to switch out parts but the problem is finding out how much RAM the mobo can handle.
