24GB 1600Mhz or 16GB 1866Mhz DDR3?

Just bought 2x8GB sticks of hyperX fury (10-11-10) 1866Mhz for my computer (sabertooth p67 MB with 2600K OC at 4.3Ghz), and it already has 2x4GB of corsair vengeance 1600Mhz (9-9-9-24).

Would I be better off with;
-2x8GB @1866Mhz
-2x8GB+ 2x4GB @1600Mhz

And finally how do would i go about over-clocking the ram?

Thanks, Curtis

4 channels is faster than 2 (on a 4 or quad channel mobo, like socket 2011 variants), the P67 is a dual channel mobo (4 slots - 2 for each channel) if you can run 2 sticks for say 16GB i.e. 2x8GB it's less stress on the MC (memory controller than running 4 sticks in a 4x4GB set (still 16GB), less stress can provide better perforomance and possibly higher OCs. XMP is eXtreme Memory Profile, it's info in the SPD of the DRAM that the BIOS can take to set the DRAM up for you when you enable it. PnP is Plug aNd Play, you simply install and they set themselves up to the rest of the system to run as fast as their programming 'feels' they can run.

Best to get all you want in a single package - no guarantees on mixing packages of DRAM - especially different models, sizes, etc and especially here - 99+ % of all DRAM over 1600 works off XMP where the Fury is the only line of DRAM that works off PnP - most people I've seen trying to XMP with PnP have encountered problems

Interesting, what is xmp and pnp? I always thought that 4 chanels would be faster than 2, not sure how true that is

Brilliant, thats cleared up quite a lot, I did a bench mark in novabench to compare the 2 different types of ram and there is a reasonable difference.

2X8GB hyperX fury
16358 MB System RAM (Score: 259)
- RAM Speed: 16273 MB/s

2x4GB of corsair vengeance
8169 MB System RAM (Score: 212)
- RAM Speed: 15290 MB/s

And its solved the original problem and fallout 4 is playing much better, Just need to upgrade the graphics card now, Any good threads you know of on this ?

Curtis

plenty of threads mate, the genernal concensus Ill tell you now though with your specs would be either a gtx 970 or a r9 390 , & what youd pick from those would be entirely based on price, whether you have a preference for nvidia or amd , & what psu youre running as the amd card is a lot more power hungry.

PSU is A Corsair TX850M, Budget around £100 - £200 although i think any new card will be better than the HD6850 ive got at the moment ! am i right in thinking the r9 390 is just a newer version of the 290 ?
