Here are specs for a gaming pc I was thinking of buying.
AMD Kaveri A10 - 7870kK Quad Core Processor / CPU running at 3.9Ghz (With 4.0GHz Turbo Mode)
8GB DDR3 1866MHZ RAM
4GB ATI Radeon HD R9 380 Graphics
1000GB Sata Hard Drive

My budget is around £500-£550 could push a small bit higher. Can you suggest any changes or a better option for me on this budget?
I do want to upgrade further in the future it is just to do me for a year or so.

Do you need an OS with it too? Or just the build? including/excluding a case?

For a year or two, an i3 will serve you fine. then you can just drop a new CPU in there (i5/i7 Skylake) and a new GPU, an SSD would be nice, but not required - the rest you're set for.

Assuming your budget doesn't include an OS, but does include a case:

If you need the OS, you'll need to pick an option. Either run an AMD chip (meaning any upgrade in a year or so would mean a new motherboard, new OS & likely new RAM), push the budget by the 75 required for the OS......or lower your GPU to something like a GTX 950

The A10 7870k is just an Athlon 860k with good integrated graphics and the integrated graphics won't be doing anything if you have a graphics card. I'd change that CPU to either the 860k or an i3 as suggested above. The i3 costs a bit more but gives better performance.

If the PC is for gaming, the 8GB you had in mind is plenty of RAM though. I wouldn't bother with 16GB.

I totally agree with the 8GB comment, the only reason I included 16GB was so the CPU (and potentially the GPU) could be upgraded in future without having to worry about upgrading RAM too - depending how long the rig is expected to last.

The PSU, the motherboard, the RAM etc can all be constant. Replace the i3 with an i5 or i7 down the road & perfect.
