Serious PC Problems after changing CPU cooler

Today I switched back to my old Be Quiet cooler after using the stock CPU cooler for about a year now because I'm lazy. Now, my PC is having some very worrying problems.

First of all, I could hear a grinding noise coming from my PC after about 10 minutes of casual use. No gaming, just internet browsing. When I looked inside, I only found a slight disconnect in the 4 pins of my 24 pin connector that you can remove. I reconnected that block and now I have a new problem.

When I power on my computer, it turns on, the fans spin, I hear the sound of my DVD drive etc, but none of my peripherals work. My monitors don't switch on, so they have no input, and the LEDs in my KB+M don't switch on.

So, what could have caused this? ESD? General mobo damage? And can I get some advice as to how I can fix this issue. Thank you.

Solution
I'd say motherboard or PSU with probably more emphasis on the motherboard. One of the largely unheralded issues of static damage to IC's is that you may not be able to feel the discharge that causes damage.
Could be a result of ESD but here's what I would try - 1st) Reset CMOS, if still no joy, 2nd) Discharge the motherboard, to do that , turn off the PSU and unplug it. Then, with PSU unplugged, press and hold your power button for ~15-20 seconds. Plug the PSU back in, turn it back on, try powering up then.
