I encrypted 2 of my internal hdd's by simply right clicking, choosing "encrypt drive using bitlocker". All was fine until Now when I input the password it unlocks them but when I try to open either drive it says its not ready?! Running windows 8.1. One is 3TB the other is 2TB. When I open disk management it shows the drives as 100% available and no space used! And I open disk management it shows the drives as unknown filesystem(BitLocker Encrypted) instead of NTFS and it also shows both drives as healthy primary partition but it shows 100% free! They are only about 20% free they are nearly full! This is my entire media collection of 15 years and it is not backed up I just bought a 5 terabyte external to back them up and then this happens! It says the device is not ready when I try to turn off BitLocker. When I double click either drive it says location is not available D:\ is not accessible the parameter is incorrect. What happened? Did BitLocker destroy my data? I didn't do anything except use BitLocker to encrypt them. Any ideas? Someone please help! I am freaking out! Could this be malware or something?

Hi, I would suggest you to try some simple resolution such as check the drive access permission status

Just do right click on the inaccessible hard drive

Go to properties then click on security tab and modify the ownership of desired account

Or, you can use chkdsk command to check and resolve the drive issue

Hope these solutions help you!!::)

I did not sell all of them just a good portion of them. Most of the data is from ripping my blu-ray discs. Which took a long time. I was not in search of a legal or copyright answer, as that is a whole different thing. I just encrypted them so my children don't have access to all of the files on the home theater computer.

"Folder permissions" and 'kid accounts'.

Anyway...If a BitLocker volume is hosed/corrupted...for whatever reason...it is probably gone.

I could re-rip my entire collection but that would take months! Why would it just offer to encrypt the files like it was no big deal and then suddenly both drives are inaccessible? There must be a way to unenrypt the discs. I made a mistake obviously, when I right clicked it it was one of the first options so I thought I would try it. there is other data that is important as well and my photos are backed up but that's about it...

And obviously its not a hardware problem because it happened to both of the drives! I was hoping someone could at least clue me in as to what could have happened. Obvious that I would have never used BitLocker had I known it was capable of doing this to both drives instantly!

Same thing, the drives are locked and when I open them it prompts me for the password, I input the password and it shows it unlocked and kind of greyed out looking instead of the gold locked icon. Then when I double click to open the drive it says it's not accessible the parameter is incorrect and same thing showing in disk management that I described in my op
