So I overclocked my amd fx-6100 4.2 GHz and it runs at 68-72 c
I'm not sure if that's too hot or not or if I should underclock to 4.1
BTW I'm using a CM hyper 212 X and also my GPU might be part of the heat issuse.

Heat rises and yeah usually is the case with most motherboards... I always go push my CPU heat up and if possible pull my GPU heat out to the side using that fan bay.

Geeze that seems awfully high... I would say a standard temp should be about 60-65 C max. At least you put some money into your sink, but I would say that is probably too hot. I am sure that a more thorough search on the web should be able to tell you the safe operating temperature.

I think I might add another fan to the cooler that will be an exhaust fan

Try to make sure that your fans are pulling the video card away from the CPU... also, the overclocking might be a bit much for the sink.... or you might be able to shell out on some better thermal compound.

Download amd overdrive and see what your thermal margin is through that, I also have a fx 6100 at 4.0 on the stock cooler I've had it go as low as a 10 degree margin which would be 60 degrees Celsius but I think the max for it was 70 degrees Celsius

Haha, fan cooling was always my biggest and constant worry (not to mention dust), of course my case has 6 bays to play with. I have a Cooler Master N520 (haven't used my computer in a couple years, impressed I remembered the model number first try) and Thermaltake V3. So it's a tight fit trying to get much else in no matter how I go or around the N520 beast... but I do think my last change was RAM > Heatsink > Back.

But I always assumed that having it like that if I exhaust from the top above the RAM that it could cause a pocket in air flow, and at the time... all my super thin fans with best airflow, kept dying so fast for their $30/ea. price tag. You live and you learn.

I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my overclocking my computer stock runs at around 37c but when overclocked at 4.3 its around 65c sooo ...
