Hi all,

I have an AMD Athlon X4 760K processor and when I use it instead of my other one an (AMD A8-5500) it causes my PC to randomly shut down. I am thinking due to overheating and I might have proof but I also have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler so shouldn't that be helping the issue? Everything in my PC is brand new.

CPU- AMD Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Memory- Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage- Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage- Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card- EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card
Case- Corsair 350D Window MicroATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply- Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified
Mother Board- MS-7778 (JasmineR) MSI

The motherboard is from an HP Pavilion 500-054... it's a MS-7778 (JasmineR) FM2 socket... it had all these parts in it but I am slowly moving out of them. Here is the HP page with all my parts listed as they were when I bought it.

What do you guys think? I didn't apply too much thermal compound, I also clean it very well and make sure there isn't any dust or lint contacting the CPU upon installation. I also ran prime95 for a torture test for 20 minutes and no problems, no errors and the OrderDrive application Thermal Margin settled around 20C after 5 mins steady.

Today whilest gaming on GTA 5 I had no problems but later in the night I was playing Rocket League and my PC shut down again. I really have searched everywhere and have found 0 answers. I am NOT willing to spend money on new hardware. When I have extra I will be upgrading my MoBo + CPU to an Z97 & i5 4950K.

However, until then what do I do? I want to continue to use the 760K because I get noticeable FPS increases through gaming while using it.

If anyone is willing to help me with this issue, I would be willing to pay for your time. I have so many problems with this and I'd really like to solve them.

Also, when I look at the event viwer it says event 42- Kernel Power Error.
Thanks for Reading.

Solution
According to AOD, it looks good but it's not under load at that time.
There is "Logging" in AOD menu, turn it on and use during game play or benchmark test. It will show you what was happening during the time you don't see program.

A little update after a few days: I updated my bios and it seems to be running okay for now. No shut downs as of now and I have been watching the temps and thermal margins.
