Should I overclock my CPU (FX 8350)

Hello everyone!

I was wondering wether I should overclock my FX 8350, instead of using Turbo Boost. I like to play games like Battlefield 4 and Hardline, but also Minecraft.
This is my current setup:
FX-8350
Hyper Evo 212
GA-990FXA-UD3 rev 4.0
XFX R9 280X DD black edition
Cooler Master G750M PSU

Today I did a system stability test with Aida64 extreme, and my CPU wouldn't go over 40 ºC on 100% load. (My fans aren't turned up all the way now, so there should be some headroom there)
I don't want to do a huge overclock, more like 4,2-4,4. Do you guys think my Battlefield performance would benefit from a small overclock? I have 70 fps most of the time, but in some more intensive maps my fps drops to 55.. (Ultra settings).

It would be great if you could help me, thanks in advance!!

Each cpu is different as to what overclock will be stable. Increase things in small increments, and run a stress after each change. When temps start to get too high or the system becomes unstable, back off a little bit to the previous stable settings.

Some OC will for sure help, especially in CPU heavy games like Battlefield. And you already got a nice aftermarket cooler, so you're free to start OCing. :)

But you'll need to go higher than 4.2Ghz, to notice any difference, because the normal turbo clock rate is already 4.2Ghz. :p

You could try 4.5Ghz without increasing the voltage just to try it out and see how it affects your performance. :)

Will it always be safe to increase to 4,5 Ghz without increasing the voltage? Will it always boot? And how much will the temperatures increase by doing this? Is it safer to have a 4.5 ghz overclock then the turbo boost? I've read that turbo increases the voltage by quite a lot and that this might be more dangerous then a small overclock. Is this true?

Turbo increases voltage if you overclocked the stock speed. Which is why you turn off turbo mode as soon as you overclock.
I doubt you can run 4.5 Ghz without voltage increase. 1.4-1.45 volts would be my guess.
4.4-4.5 is typically the max you can get with air coolers.

That much voltage? I know that quite a few people are running 4.5Ghz with just 1.35v.

And no matter how much you OC your CPU, your PC will always boot, because the CPU doesn't get to any heavy loads while booting. So in case you OCd i little too much, you're always able to lower it again.

And yes, the turbo increases voltage by a lot, so you want manual voltage control to be enabled.

Just make sure, that the CPU isn't getting much hotter than 60c at full load and you're fine.

So to start I should increase the multiplier by a little bit and do a stresstest? Without increasing the voltage? I am really scared to ruin my system ;) Do you know a link to a video or forum where they do a very easy tutorial on overclocking the fx 8350 (preferably on a ga-990fxa-ud3 mb). I have looked some things up, but I am not really sure which settings to turn on or off, and what the best overclocking method is (like first increasing multiplier, then voltage untill it is stable)
