Hi audiophiles, I own two Yamaha receivers (Avantage A-1030 and RX-V500)..
According to the datasheets and manuals both allow bit-streaming of DSD (Direct Stream Digital).
I use a Win10-PCs with AMD-APUs connected via HDMI into the Yamahas and have no problem bitstreaming PCM, AC3, DTS, DTS MastAudio, etc. to them, just DSD does not work.
I tried to use Foobar2000 and JRiver, both have plug-ins for DSD bitstreaming, but I just cannot get it to work. The A-1030 does nothing at all and the RX-V500 shows DSD in the display for a second or so and then drops silent.
Being a real couch potatoe when it comes to listening to music I'd really love to be able to bit-stream from my server in perfect quality.
I have a large collection of SACD and DVD-A discs. I've managed to rip them all to ISO-images which can be played by Foobar2000 but only by converting them to a PCM-stream on the fly which sounds somewhat different to when I replay the discs on my Pioneer SACD Player, which again is sub-optimal as this one uses a 6-channel analog output.
So I still wonder how pure DSD bitstreaming would sound like ...
Any thoughts welcome, but I don't want to add a DSD-DAC connected to the PC via USB though and then feed that to the receivers.
Cheers, Stefan
