Hello,

Guys am in dilemma..

I am building new right with the following config

i7-6700K
16GB DDR4 GSKILL
Asus Maximus Hero/Ranger VIII
Seasonic 850W
Corsair 500R
Corsair GTX H100i

So shall i get a New GTX 970 or a Second hand GTX980?

or shall I wait for Pascal?

Is the pascal worth it? Also the config am building, is it good enough? or i can do anything better than this?

Also any idea by when it will be out?

If you want better right now and don't care about money then go get 2 GTX 980 Ti's.

I seen someone say Q2 for Pascal at least, and they didn't know if that was when the low, mid, or high tier series were launching. Pascal is suppose to be 10 times faster then current Maxwell GPUs and is being built to handle 4k from what I've been reading.

I dont think i would wait for pascal. Because not much is known yet. And i dont think getting a 980 is a good idea because the price for performance is amazing, the 970 is great but it doesn't have as much power as you may want. So i would say get a 980 Ti or possibly getting an AMD card. But i dont think waiting for Pascal or get the 980 is too great of an idea.

If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.
Also, it is not clear if nvidia will introduce pascal at the high end to capture the high performance crown or at the low end to take advantage of the lower production cost.

For gaming, I would do things differently.
i5-6600K is cheaper and will be as good a gamer as the i7.
Ditch the H100I , skylake runs cool, you need only a simple tower type cooler and a 120mm fan to oc to the cuip's max.

See if the cpu and cooler savings let you buy a GTX980ti.
You will not need pascal for a long time.

If you buy used on ebay, you are somewhat protected if you use paypal. Buy a EVGA card from a seller with good feedback.
EVGA has a 3 year transferrable warranty.

Me personally, I'm not waiting. Too many factors involved. We don't know when Pascal will be available to us, we don't know how expensive the first few Pascal cards will be (they could be crazy high-end which would mean even more waiting for the average person), and we really don't know how they will perform either.
I would get a new card now and wait until the 2nd gen of Pascal when they have a better grasp on the architecture. Besides, if you're gaming at 1080p then cards like the 970 and 980 should still be pushing around 60FPS at max settings with ease for the next 1.5-2 years. Waiting for Pascal is unnecessary in my opinion unless you're looking to get 60FPS at 1440 or 4k.

Multiple cards are very capable of doing 1440p @ 60FPS right now. 4K (2160p) however, different animal with every setting maxed out.

Stick with the i7 and get the 980 then. It will be great.
