Can the Intel E8600 processor be installed in DP965LV Version AAD59511-405 MOBO and what BIOS would I need?

Solution
Don't be confused by the socket (775) and the chipset (965). The E6750 won't work because it isn't supported by the chipset (if may POST, but it will be slower than an E6300). The Core 2 Duo E6700 should work, but the newer Pentium E6700 won't; make sure you get an old C2D E6700.

IT DOESN'T HAVE THE 965..... it has the LGA775 so it should accept the Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 processor. I just don't know if Gateways last Bios revision for the MOBO will allow that processor to work?
I do know the bus size may reduce the E8600's capabilities so I may be better off installing a Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 SLA9V 2.66GHZ / 4M / 1333fsb 2.66 GHZ CPU/Processor and Overclocking it.

Since it's a Micro Btx setup, I can't replace the MOBO with modern tec. but those old processors and cooling solutions are cheap so I just want to max out the processing speed on that 8GB DDR2 MOBO.

So this old Gateway GM5260 has served me well for over 10 years. Someone else had told me the E8600 was a compatible processor. I'm very happy you saved me a headache. Thank you.....I already upgraded my PSU when the stock one quit. So I dropped a hun..i on this $200 computer: C2D E6700 Intel processor, 8 GB of 800mgz Ram, a xigmatek hdt-s1283 dark knight heatsink w/fan, and an upgraded rear case fan. Should all be a worthwhile upgrade. Still running XP on the original HD and have a 3TB HD I'll be running Windows 7 with licensed Win 10 upgrade. I'll let yas know how it works out....Thanks for your help.

Quite some time has gone by and the old GM5260 is still running strong. Went with the Core 2 Duo E6700 CPU. Still a good ole work companion. Didn't ever get around to upgrading the heatsink because the stock MB cooler bolts directly through the MB to the BTX case. I'd like to find a heatsink CPU cooling solution or brackets that fit the 65 x 110 mm mounting holes.

It was over a year ago when you helped me upgrade the CPU in the Gateway GM5260 w/ Intel Love Valley DP965LVG2. The Duo Core E6700 CPU was a worthwhile upgrade. Thank you. The Gateway stock low profile aluminum fin block heatsink provides adequate cooling only because I haven't put any load on that cpu. That board has a four pin cpu fan connector that is listed in bios as such; so, one may assume someone out there at one time made a heatsink/cpu cooler with fan for this rig. I have a S1283 Dark Knight sitting here that I have been planning to install; however, I'll probably have to make brackets for it. The heatsink in this one uses the BTX box as a backplate with fastners 65 x 110mm apart. Two brackets are needed with 110mm spaced fastener holes.
