Hi everyone.
I will apologise in advance if this has been covered elsewhere, however, I've been unsuccessful with posted solutions I have found.

I am trying to reinstall windows 7 on my laptop. I used to have win8 but got fed up with the disk 100% thing. I reformated my drive and installed win7. Everything was ok for a few days, and then it started to get laggy. I decided to do a chkdsk (c: /f /r /x). It requested a restart in order to carry out the process. After restarting, chkdsk found a couple of bad sectors (I can't remember what files had to be moved) and restarted again. This happened 3 times altogether.
The very last restart brought me to the "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". This is as far as I can get without the disk...
I then tried an official win7 install disk which gets a little further. After lingering on the "Starting Windows" screen for a couple of minutes, the screen goes black with only the white cursor.

I have changed my BIOS settings as so:
*SysInfo*
- No changes
*Advanced*
- CPU Power Saving Mode - Disabled
- EDB (Execute Disable Bit) - Enabled
- Fast BIOS Mode - Disabled
- AHCI Mode Control - Manual
- Set AHCI mode - Disabled
- USB S3 Wake-Up - Disabled
*Security*
- No changes
*Boot*
- Boot Device Priority
1. SATA CD (DVD Drive)
2. SATA HDD
- Touch Pad Mouse - Disabled
- Secure Boot - Disabled
- OS Mode Selection - CSM OS
- Internal LAN - Enabled
- PXE OPROM - Disabled

[Please note that I have used "UEFI and CSM OS" setting aswell in the OS Mode but kept it a CSM OS as there is no point using both with win7]

I have used most of the F8 options and keep getting the black screen w/cursor.

Booting into safe mode seems to always stall on "...\drivers\disk.sys" when "Loading Windows Files". After 5-10 mins on this it'd end up back on the black screen w/cursor...

I have also open the lapfop up to reset the BIOS with no success.

IAny help would be really appreciated, cheers.

<SYSTEM SPECS>

@ puff3r - cheers for the prompt reply, was hoping there maybe a fix but did suspect the drive to be knackered. Will look at investing in a new HDD/SSD. Cheers again

Dear King_Stevo,
I am Harikrishnan Namboothiri N from Kerala
I know this problem. This problem is impossible to be cured. Just before some days I Repaired this error in my friend's laptop just by replacing his hard disk with a newly bought one and now his computer is okay. The cause of this problem is in your question it selves - You restarted the hard disk 2 to 5 times improperly. I am 100% sure that your Hard disk is about to fail as Mr. Puff_3r said. I recommend you to change your hard disk with a new one made by Seagate
