Hey guys!

The stock fan on the radiator is connected to the Gpu and i dont know if its just me since I have been reading reviews on newegg about how quiet the card and radiator fan is. But me personally think its loud as hell. Feels like its running at full throttle. I have been looking around for a answer and there are other owners that have replaced the fan with silent one. but again Im not 100% sure if there is something wrong with the fan controller on my card.

Solution
I been looking at that card for some time now just cant seem to pull the trigger -- I now recall seeing your handle over at evga ..

all I could think to do is find a fan that fits but say a 1600 rpm that holds the same cfm ??

like say the evga fan is 34cfm at 2000 rpm just replace with a 34 or so cfm fan at 1600 rpm ??

I did see on the msi seahawk they tried that on the board headers ?? how well thats working ??

''For example, since the radiator’s fan is plugged into a motherboard fan header, its speeds can be independently controlled and aren’t tied at the hip to liquid temperatures. This means the Sea Hawk can be as loud or quiet as you want based on your expected performance. ''

At its highest level of somewhere between...

Im talking about the fan that are mounted on the radiator 120mm :) i can adjust the gpu fan and its working correctly. My question is about the radiator fan that came with the hybrid card. For me its loud as hell and when i read the reviews on new egg it doesn't seem to bother anyone or well a few but im not sure if they have a faulty card. I know i could change the fan to a silent one but i got the card today and if it turns out that this is a issue i will return it to the stor.

Been there junkeymonkey. But again some say its perfectly quiet and some says like me its loud like its running at full speed. When i connect the fan to the motherboard ( Hero VIII) I cant control the rpm with the fan expert. its ether on or off :p Strange.

At its highest level of somewhere between 1600RPM and 1700RPM, the included 120mm radiator fan does make some noticeable noise but it can be likened to a muted “hum
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/70463-msi-gtx-980-ti-sea-hawk-review-3.html

For comparison purposes, the EVGA Hybrid's radiator fan connects directly to the video card (along the tubing channels) via 3-pin header, but is voltage-controlled directly by the card's temperature demands

so is it because the sensor that controls this bad ??

not to say the msi is the better but show what they did on theres

Well as i understand there must be some kind of fan controller on the gpu for the radiator fan. I mean the guys that have done reviews on the card have not mentioned the noise levels as LOUD. Im pretty sure they would have said something if radiator fan is making as much noise as the jet turbine going inside my case.

My solution to this is to just order the same card and try that and see if the fan preforms the same or is somehow reduced. If it preforms the same i am going to order a Noctua NF-F12 and be done with the noise, but hopefully the new card will be as quiet as i imagine it to and the card that is currently mounted will be returned.

Thanks for all your input guys. Much appreciated

Best regard's John A Johnsen

If your curious i can give you and update how it goes when i receive the card on monday hopefully :)

lets say that if the card is faulty and changing the fan would be a satisfactory solution for some but not for me. It just shouldn't be necessary to buy a new fan for something that should be working in the first place.

Yeah it must be the fan controller on the card. I mean its running at 100% and Real temp & pressisiton X shows 22 °C idle

i don't get why evga don't give a straight answer on that ?? i had a gpu fan that stopped working but it would work fine at 100% speed if the card exceeded 80c ?? before it ''went bad'' it ran 20% idle and max 33% @ 65c ??

so is it something in the fan or the sensor on the card ?? i need to pull a fan out of another card to see if it works right with another fan to see if its the fan itself or something in the card ??

theres something to test

I received the new card today and can confirm to all Nvidia evga 980ti hybrid owners. That the radiator fan is adjusted by the card when the temperature rises or lowers. To confirm this i plugged the radiator fan from the old card to the new card and it went whispering quiet. This means that the Card's fan headers are faulty, so if you own a Evga 980ti hybrid and are wondering about the loud radiator fan its the headers and not the fan. Its a RMA from where i see it.

I guess that's good info to know ,, sad to find out at that cost and time - at 700 bucks a card you would think QC would be better overall

so how did evga handle the rma or have you got that far yet ?? I guess now unless your planning to SLI or sell off the rma'ed card when it comes in just sounds like a lot of out of pocket expense to find all that out ..

anyway I assume to say good luck and enjoy ?

Well we keep a strict 14 days no question asked return guarantee in Norway. So all i have to do is contacting them and send it back to the stor get my money and they will do the rest luckily for me:) Thanks for following up on the thread.

Hope more owners that have this problem sees this. As for alternative fix that includes buying a quiet fan and connecting the pin to the board is a legit solution but i think its better to have the GPU temp as a reference for the fan speed.

And again if you have the same problem as me its NOT the radiator fan but the header on the graphic card.

Yeah quite happy now junkeymonkey:) And the tinitus is slowly going away:pP You will probably see me in the thread ''Problems with ASUS pg348q'' when its coming already pre ordered. hehe

Ps: The guarantee is only active when you are buying from online stores.

you seen in the pm I sent with the guys one saying it was the card [vrm] fan then next few down a guy said with his it was the radiator fan ? then as I was saying never there evga tech guy replying to them type threads explaining something ?

http://forums.evga.com/GTX-980-TI-Hybrid-Fan-control-speed-m2382546.aspx

well as with anything / any brand theres all ways that chance of getting the lemon . then it blows when you do ..

I've had my figure on the trigger but just cant seem to pull it , and really did not want to go air with these ? also looking at the 980 as well but availability is not good for some reason

e-mail to evga support on that

''so whats the deal on the gtx 980 hybrid these days ? seem only available through evga store ?

you can find them like at amazon at inflated price but like newegg and most don't seem to carry it anymore and any link to it redirects to a plain old reference card ??

is it being phased out or discontinued or becoming a evga store only item ???

answer
''Hi,

I am sorry for the delayed response. I can confirm that we just moved locations and this did delay shipments a bit. You will likely start seeing these available more in the next few weeks.

then I asked then why is this not affecting the other evga cards ??

''just was wondering seeing its been gone at least September ? did not see where other evga cards faced this ??

for example as shown here

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp41989k...

figured something was wrong with the cards and got pulled ??

so far no reply to that

Well i know they have gotten some bad responses regarding the card design i guess the ''new cards'' that you will see in a few weeks looks something like this: http://www.evga.com/articles/00962/EVGA-HYBRID-Face-Off-Program/

ya, I was figuring on after seeing the newer led shroud and then msi came out with a higher clocked card [and now gigabyte as well but the cooler looks sloppy built to me ??] there would /maybe a rev 2 of the evga hybrids after these rev 1 cards sold out [lol]????

good thing this old card I'm using is still holding its own and I'm not pressed ,but a fresh more powerful card would be nice as well ...

giga card cooler build quality [looks like something I made on the tailgate of my pickup truck out of stuff I had laying around ?]

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GTX_980_Ti_Waterforce/images/cooler2.jpg

then says its the same from off amd fury cards ?? did they not have there own crap issues as well ??

Nahh...i would not bother i mean save the cash for a pascal! Thats what im waiting for. The 980ti is holding up grate for now, but i guess it will change when i go from the current 4k monitor to the asus pg34 with 3440x1440:p Im currently playing in 1920x1080:)

that monitor look pretty slick [nice] .. my poor old eyes 1080 is good enough and I use hdtv's 32'' and 46'' .. I don't support any newer pc games that require 3ed party involvement /clients/ mandatory downloads [with out limitations] /content/internet connection required to load or play [ like steam u-play- origin] ..

if its not a real pc game that's 100% on the disk for my private personal use = no sale

so investing in a ''gaming '' computer is not what it use to be and you see all the guys with theres here at toms with the ''my card or computer don't run max/ lagging / frame drops / all that , but worked fine and fast right up until steam got there content and data to make there changes in the game ... now it lags ?? ya, buddy

ya its steam and all them are throttling ''there'' games so you cant - [as they put it '' in the name of fair game play ??''] hmmm....

on my servers [when we ran them] if your rig lagged you just did not frag . not keep everybody at a limit so all can play on the server .. they cant have your mac daddy 200 fps rig playing with lesser rigs and there getting run over by you that will piss there customers off and hurt business.

so to keep everyone happy everyone is set to play the close to the same ... so think on that some and that's just what I see from that

so with that I cant see spending on a fine rig anymore but still I like to build to the better that I had last time as well
