I'm looking at an intel CPU, the problem is that i don't want to bottle neck the graphics card, what intel CPU should i get, i want a fast, reliable CPU, for example at the moment im looking at an intel i7 6700k

Both the i5 and i7 will work fine with it, but, if you plan on upgrading graphics or adding in SLI in the future go with the i7. The i5 could definitely handle 980 Ti SLI, but you certainly won't be getting your full money's worth. Definitely don't go for one of the everyday consumer i5 chips. Probably should't step down to Devil's Canyon either unless you can find an epic price, as, while they are only 20% different in power, Skylake is much more flexible and utilizes DDR4, as well as a revamped microarchitecture.

I personally wouldn't pair that with anything less than an X99 system. Quad channel ram and an NVMe drive would compliment that GPU nicely. A 5820K for a single card setup or a 5930K for SLI headroom in the form of 40 PCI-E lanes would be perfect.

An X99 platform for gaming is a waste. You do not need a haswell-E processor. The extra threads are not needed at all, and its single core performance is not all that more impressive.
Not to mention Z170 boards support M.2 NVMe SSDs as well.

I game on the X79 platform and I have yet to see a Z170 outperform that system especially considering the 16 lane PCI-E limitation. Unless you plan on running a GPU at 8x alongside your NVMe its a total bust. At the end of the day get whatever makes sense for you. Many games are starting to integrate extraneous core support and from my own personal experience X79/X99 chips overclock extremely well. Just my two cents.

True, but you also have no headroom for the future. Chances are as the popularity of HBM increases, the bandwidth demands of high end GPUs will start to be a little too taxing for an 8x connection. Still at this point you can really go either way. The one thing I can say is that I bought my 4930k in 2013 its been a solid performer ever since. I'm confident that the core components of my computer will be more than enough to handle the next 4-5 years without a need for upgrading.
