Looking for an AMD CPU that's equal to the i5-4590 or better that fits the FM2+ socket so I can use the Rift.

Unfortunately, there is no such beast. For now, AMD does not match Intel's performance, particularly when you get to the i5 or i7. That said, it many applications (particularly games), the graphics card is more important to overall performance. Looking at the requirements for Oculus Rift, it would appear to me that the graphics card is more important; a GTX970 is required. I'd wait and see before arbitrarily upgrading until actual benchmarks are out.

There is nothing that I'm aware of that'll fit all of those. I've seen claims that heavily overclocked FX-83XX processors can deliver comparable performance, but I take those with a heavy dose of skepticism. And the future is grim as well, as all new Zen processors will be on the AM4 or codename 'G' sockets.
