I was in the same situation. I had a 970 and was looking at the cost difference. I sold my 970 for $285 and upgraded to the 980 ti and could not be happier. I picked up the MSI GTX 980 Ti gaming 6g.

Going SLI over a better singluar card is usually a nono. I would really recommend going for the 980TI. there are far too many problems going on with SLI for the hassle, a single GPU if far much better.

True and you would have better performance from single 980 ti in games aswel plus you can overclock it if you feel the need and gain 10+fps. And it doesnt draw so much power as 2x970, it's not producing so much heat and noise and most of the time runs better in games due to Sli/crossfire optimization and not every game even supports it. So yeah it's better to have 1 high-end GPU card than 2 mid .end cards

GTX970 = 13 active SM units
GTX980Ti = 22 active SM units

GTX970 x2 gets you 26 but there is the slight scaling factor, SLI compatibility, and the mentioned 3.5GB memory issues.

GTX980Ti is really the best buy when it comes to the costs.

GTX980 really needs its price reduced to make it a competitive choice.
