I have seen all kinds of threads for my exact same question, but none of them are exactly what I need to know.

I plan to upgrade my AMD FX-8320 to an AMD FX-9590. My motherboard is a 970 chipset, and I know the 970 would do some funny stuff when the FX-9590 was put under load. Also, I am into the overclocking thing. My FX-8320 is at 4.5GHz, 1GHz more than stock speed. I would go further, but my liquid cooling isn't strong enough. I will be upgrading to a 280mm Radiator, which should more than solve my thermal problems.

I am looking for a motherboard in the $120 to $200 range. I picked out a few, but which one would be best for:

  • Overclocking with an FX-9590
Running Two AMD Radeon R9 390 GPUs
    4 X 4GB DDR3 RAM (1333MHz)

Here are the boards I picked out (Gigabyte and MSi are my favorite brands, so if it ends up preference based, then there is my answer) Feel free to add your own.

MSI 990FXA-GD65V2 ATX AMD Motherboard
$129.99

ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
$114.99
Also: Why is this one so cheap?

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 R5 (rev. 1.0) ATX AMD Motherboard
$149.99

ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
$179.99

ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support and UEFI BIOS
$219.99
Also: This motherboard is out of my price range, but is reviewed great. I cannot find out what makes it better.

Thanks,

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 850W to 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling , h100i minimum or full system liquid cooling.

If thinking about putting out money for a 9590 and new mobo - going from an 8320 have a feeling you aren't going to be happyThe 9590 is a highly OCed 8350 (thus requireing 220 instead of 125 and thus a much higher rated PSU, Ive seen 8350s and 8370s OCed to the same as what the 9590 runs out (without needing the higher end PSU. I've got a 8370/Crosshair rig (in sig) and it doesn't begin to match up to a decent Intel rig - if going new, I'd go Intel, will be happier overall with a 4690K based build or the newwer 6600K
