SLi bridge length? (EVGA Pro V2 / z170)

Alright it shouldn't be this difficult to find a straight forward answer. I must be searching the wrong words because I haven't found any concrete support for the proper length bridge to use.

2-way SLI EVGA GTX 980 Ti Classifieds
GA-z170x Gaming 7 or Maximus VIII Hero (they appear to have the same PCIE layout)
EVGA Pro V2 SLi Bridge (available in 2 lengths for 2-way, short 40mm, and long 60mm)

Here is a diagram of the motherboard, PCIE slots 1 + 2, what is the distance?

I took a tape measure out and looked at an old asus p8p67 pro motherboard which appears to have the same spacing between the 2 slots. I measured roughly 2 3/8 inches, which is 60.325mm. Would you say it's safe to assume I need the long, 60mm sli bridge?

In addition, would you guys go for the gigabyte GA-z170X Gaming 7, or the Asus Maximus VIII Hero in this setup? My concerns are PCIE Lane performance for SLI 2 way gaming on those 2 cards, along with a 6700K and some g.skill Trident Z ddr4 16/32 GB ram in dual channel.
