I am really unclear about this issue I am having. I have searched and have not seen a definitive answer.

I am building a newer PC. Not current gen but really close. Here are my old CPU & Mobo:

1. AMD Athlon II X3 450 CPU
2. BIOSTAR A780L3G Mobo

Here are the new specs:

1. AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU
2. MSI 970 GAMING ATX AM3+ Mobo

My question is: If I take my old Hard Drive from the old PC, will it boot in the new one? I had heard that Win7 was able to boot from any PC you put the drive into. If this is not true can I just repair the Win files from my Win7 Ultimate Disk and have it work that way?

Please any and all help is appreciated. Thank-you.

New motherboard new OS you cant migrate the OS between them. However as long as you are not using and OEM version of windows 7 you should be able to use your windows 7 disk to reinstall windows.
