Hello guys,

Recently got a surge protector and connected all of my PC to it, and surge protector to the UPS battery socket. My PC is a Gaming PC and has 650w PSU in it.

Where i live the power outage is frequent, i feel current whenever i touch my PC case, this happens only in one wall socket, when PC is connected in other socket in different room, the current doesn't flow.

Now i can't manage to take my PC to that wall socket, it's very difficult, so i was thinking weather this continuous flow of current might cause any damage to the parts,as i'm shifting to a different place not soon but still , so should i keep it as it is? or try anything different...
Please help, and thanks .

One more thing, about that socket in which the current doesn't flow, i noticed whenever i switch off and surge protector's plugged in to the wall, the surge protector's light still lits up not normally but very dim, while in other sockets it is not the case. is the current still flowing even after switching it off? could it be bad for my PC if i somehow managed to connect to that socket?

Solution

That means the outlet your PC is connected to has bad ground and leakage current is energizing the stuff you connect to it. If you are renting the place, you should notify the landlord about the electrical fault since this is a shock hazard. If you own the place, you should have it fixed for your own safety and the safety of whoever is buying the place from you.

I will let a technician check it, but i have one more socket in another room, no current in it,so was thinking to move the PC to that room?

but i have noticed the light of surge protector doesn't get off when i power off the switch, but unplug the protector from the wall. Does it mean the current still flowing in the surge? will this harm my components anyhow?

If by switch you mean on the wall and turning that off still lights up some light on the surge protector, one possibility is that the switch is incorrectly wired to the neutral side of the circuit instead of live and the surge protector's lights are lighting up due to leakage from live to ground. The same may apply if live and neutral are swapped on the outlet.

It is much more likely to hurt you.

Although if you are plugging in a USB device or something else and one of the data signal pins makes contact with the computer before the ground pin or shield does, the data line might not like having some fraction of line voltage put on it.
