Upgrading GPU on HP DC7800 CMT

Solution

As long as you can return it if it doesn't work on your system, sure. It does not need external power to work.

You really can't do much in there without replacing the PSU, its very low power and not very efficient.

The GT750 (or if you can find a 750ti without a power connector) are the best GPU's you can get that would work in there.

Thats said, buyer beware, you should check the HP forums to see if anyone else upgraded the GPU on that PC. Many times due to the proprietary motherboard very few cards will actually work in it. It would be good to check the HP forums and see if you can find someone who has done a similar upgrade successfully and copy what they used.

Like I said, if you get one that doesn't have a power connector then it could work. You need to go on the HP/Compaq forums on their website and look for users who have done the same upgrade to be sure. It SHOULD work, but I can't say definitely as many times proprietary based systems like that don't work with all parts.
