Hey All I am currently looking at building a photo editing rig for 800 AUD (Can go upto 900 at absolute most) I require an OS (Preferably win 10) so please factor that into the total cost.
The main usage will be photo editing (Will occasionally use for light gaming and video editing).
Finally I have 200 AUD set asside for peripherals as well as whatever part of my pc budget doesn't get used.

Solution

It can´t really be recommended. For a editing system, you´ll want a fast skylake cpu and fast DDR4 ram. If you choose a haswell build you´ll be looking at something like HD 4600 / 5000 integrated graphics - which is quite weak in comparison to HD 530 which skylake offers.
Skylake tech is faster and more effecient than haswell - meaning a 3.0 cpu haswell cpu will perform worse than a 3.0 ghz skylake cpu. So haswell cpu would be fine for a budget gaming system, but not for photo editing.

AMD core by core performance is weak in comparison to Intel - you´d be looking at minimum FX 8350, and still expect loss of performance vs the i5-6500. On top of that you´d be needed an...

This is what I would responsibly recommend you:

- Fast Skylake cpu, that will cut down cpu rendering time.
- Integrated HD 530 Graphics (will run even newest tripple A titles in low/med settings)
- 16 GB of fast DDR4 ram. If you need more, I picked a mobo that supports up to 64 GB and you have 2 ram sockets free in this build.
- 1 TB HDD. Add 2 smaller SSD on a later time is recommended
- solid psu that has enough power, if you should add a dedicated GPU later on.

Yes it will. For the money, you can´t get much better.

Ideally you want to add:
- 16 GB more ram
- 1 x 250 GB SSD (for Windows and programs) + 1 x 120 GB SSD (scratch/temp drive)
- nVidia GTX 970 or 980 TI

Some programs may use video rendering, in which case your rendering time will be alot shorter with a dedicated graphics card.
Insufficient ram will result in hitting the swap file more frequently - meaning longer editing/rendering times.
Proper storage drive setup will improve performance as well.

On top of that you´d be needed an videocard and a cpu cooler and a mobo that can overclocks decently - this would add up to more money for less performance.
