So? should I buy a NAS or make one myself?

And if i should build one myself what parts should I get? with a budget around 200 dollars could be a bit more. The budget is without the storage.

Solution
For prebuilt NAS look at either Synology or Qnap. Both are quality, have about as simple UI as you'll ever get, and have been reliable to me. For Synology all their models that have a + symbol mean that are using an Intel chip so they have a bit more omph to them if you want to perform something like Plex trans-coding directly on the NAS.

No i want to put them on there watch the movies place them on an other PC, watch them on the TV. Its mainly so we can put our files on it and share them with each other. for example music, somebody places it on the NAS and someone else copy's it off the NAS and puts it on his/her Phone.

Yeah already thought that was looking at the Asus RT-N66U seems like a good router.

I actually agree with this, I would definitely look at getting a network upgrade - and probably hard-wired CAT5 over Wifi - before setting up a NAS. There's also a Linux variant called FreeNAS that you should definitely look into: http://www.freenas.org/

Yeah i know about FreeNAS but there's one problem with my router which sucks.... Its a Router and a Modem in one so I need to bridge the router. And i prefer to have the Asus router as first router. Because the router I right now use isnt too good any solutions?
