is it ok to have cross fire with a pci 3.0 slot together with a pci 2.0 slot

I have a h97 pro gamer and a asus radeon r9 390. I want to upgrade to a second gpu. I don't have a pci 3.0 slot left however I still have a pci 2.0 slot left. If I do upgrade to a second gpu will I be sacrificing any performance.

Is the 8x slot a 4x 8x or slot you may need to check your manual it may be 16x wide but defending on your mobo it may make both slot run at 8x if it does your fine if it runs 16x and 4x it is not worth running xfire
