Hi there CAPERNIUS,
Yes you can do that.
Just keep in mind that you will need a power cable in case the drive is 3.5''. Most of the desktop hard drives are 3.5''.
If the drive is a 2.5'' one, you will have no issues with powering it up with only USB connection.
