Hello! This is my first post on here so correct me if I have done anything incorrectly. I have just bought a 250GB Crucial SSD that I would like to install as a boot drive for Windows 7 64 bit and to install one steam game. I have a quite new 2TB HDD (I said old in the title because it has my files on it) that has all of my files for my steam game (I am only using FSX) and all of my other files. I do not quite know how to install this SSD alongside my HDD. I believe that I must wipe my HDD and back up any files I want to keep beforehand. So how would I go about installing this? Because all I want to use it for is my boot drive and for my game. Thank you!

Solution
Just set SATA to AHCI mode, disconnect HDD temporarily, install W7 on SSD, reconnect HDD, delete all the partitions on it and make new one/s. That's all there is to it.

Not to hijack this, but I'm doing almost exactly the same thing; the question I have in addition to the above is - can I replicate this process without formatting the old hdd? Once I install the new SSD and set it up as the new boot drive, will the old hdd be accessible instantly as a slave drive once plugged in (sata)? Or will it not be openable through the new SSD Windows install?

It shouldn't mess up anything, what I suggested is only to get back full space on that disk. OS makes few partitions on it's own when installed and they are of no use any more since you are not booting from it. In addition, there's also at least 20 -30 GB just in windows system files plus bunch of programs installed on it and which probably will not work any more until reinstalled. Data files you could backup somewhere else until cleaning is finished and than put them back on now substantially more space.
