Wireless Connection Keeps Dropping

Normally my internet connection has been steady, it doesn't drop etc however recently it has been dropping very frequently normally for only 10-20 seconds (which for online gaming is a huge issue.) It only drops on one device which is my desktop, it is a wireless connection, all other devices are unaffected. Initially I thought it was a problem with the desktop but having connected it to other networks there has been no problem. The only real difference I can see between my desktop and all other wireless devices in the house (phones, tablets, laptops etc.) is that I have a dual band WiFi dongle, so sometimes it connects to the 2.4ghz and other times the 5ghz.

When I do connect it to other routers they are all 2.4ghz only, which is leading me to believe the problem is to do with the dual band frequencies? Is this even a known problem or is it something else that I am failing to see?

I have the virgin super hub 2 router and am using a TP-LINK Archer T4U AC1200 Dual Band Wireless USB 3.0 Adapter.

Any help will be appreciated.

Solution
You can manually switch frequencies by typing your router's agress into URL bar and inputing username/password combo.
Otherwise, i'd check the adapter and go with PCIe Wireless adapter which is a bit more "secure" to use.
