My dad always gets cheap Wal-Mart routers because he's stupid. We just so that means were going to get a new router provided by the internet provider. He hasn't came yet so I don't know where the router. I want a good router that's expensive but not like $1000. I'm thinking between $100-$200. Depending on where the router is I'm thinking of getting either a wireless router and running a WAP downstairs or getting a wired router and getting two WAP(1 upstairs and 1 downstairs). There's only about 5 people in the house and I'm the only one that games. So I need a router with a hardware that can handle this much traffic. I want a wired option and a wireless option (good range please).

PS: Sorry for my terrible description.

First you never play games on wireless no matter how good the router is. It is not the router it is your house and the neighborhood that will make the difference not so much the router. You are always subject to random delays because of interference when you use wireless.

If you can get a ethernet connection to the router then how good a router you need mostly depends on how fast a internet connection you have. Unless you are getting a internet connection that is more than 100m even very inexpensive routers can handle that.

Still if you only look at it from a game perspective almost any router will work if you have a wired connection. Games are designed to allow people with very small internet connection to play....the game...

Games run well under 1mbit so unless you have a 10yr old router it will be able to do 1m.

Don't fall into the trap of buying big fancy numbers thinking some larger number is somehow better. It is like the people that buy the latest 802.11ac routers and do not have nic cards in their equipment that can use 802.11ac.

We did get a 300$ router and it is working way better than my old cheap router. Wired is not an option for me.
