Approximate Purchase Date: 1-3 months flexible if something new is coming out soon.

Budget Range: <=$3000 Would like to keep this reasonable, but also would like it to last several years.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Broadcasting to twitch, recording for youtube, gaming. Loads of threads recommend the i5's for just gaming, but after using my i5 2500k for the last 4 years and seeing it max out many times while streaming, I'm going to have to get an i7 or amd equivalent this time around. The only other alternative is building two separate pc's and using an internal capture card to connect one to the other. Pretty sure this wouldn't be as cost effective as building one pc though.

Parts Not Required: Help me build the box, I'll settle on peripherals on my own :)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg is preferred for ease of 1-stop shopping. There's a microcenter maybe 2.5 or 3 hours south of me that I could drive through if the savings was immense.

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: Without sparking a hate-war, I'm leaning towards intel/nvidia for this build. It seems like the i7 5820 or i7 6700 are going to out perform the AMD FX cpu's in most cases. As for the radeon vs nvidia debate, I just like the idea of a 970 or 980 ti, but I'll certainly listen to opinions to the contrary on both cpu and gpu options.

Overclocking: Nah. I mean, the higher stock speed on the K versions alone feels worth it to me even though I don't intend to OC.

SLI or Crossfire: Nah. Have allowed for this on my last 3-4 builds and every time I end up just single-upgrading and/or building an entirely new system. Doesn't seem worth to factor this capability into my builds anymore.

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 - Still not sure if I'm ready to make the jump to a larger resolution. Am strongly considering a nice g-sync / free-sync monitor with either 2k or 4k resolution, but not sure the time is right (games-wise) to make that leap.

Additional Comments: Don't really like lights and windows in my cases, minimalist designs are awesome to me. Quiet is a huge plus. Size doesn't matter, but I do love small/efficient cases.

~~

Hopefully I've included enough information, here's a basic build I was considering to give you guys an idea:
i7 5820k
gtx 980 ti
16gb ram
1tb ssd (contemplating the merits of using one large ssd for os, games, storage etc, vs one small for os, and another for games, and another for storage. I don't store much other than just keeping my steam games installed, so I don't think I need a mechanical drive for music or photos or anything like that)
motherboard?
generic dvd drive
no blu-ray
windows 10
case

Alrighty, very interested to see what everyone thinks. Thanks for any advice or opinions you can share :)

That monitor looks really good for the price. Great reviews, Acer has really stepped up in the last couple of years with their monitors. Main reason I chose that motherboard was for the wifi. I honestly don't believe you can make a bad choice with any of the 2011 v3 mobo's if you're not going to go SLI and have a bunch of drives, they all pack a lot of features. I know the the 6 core was probably overkill, but no fear of it becoming obsolete and needing a replacement in the next five years.

I've heard great things about the EVGA X99 Classified motherboard. If your budget allows, I would look into an Asus RampageV motherboard.

As for cases, NZXT makes a relatively cheap full tower H630 case that has great reviews. I prefer full tower over mid tower just for the extra room inside.

here is a bit of a overkill solution but should handle anything for a long long time

xeon E5-2698 $1800 same single core as the 5820 so their will be no lose in gaming preformance but this beast has 16 cores

Supermicro C7X99-OCE ATX- $190 im personally a fan of super-micro board but many others work.

4*8 gig ddr4 ram $160

any case will do

gtx 980ti best card out there for 1080p if you ever go higher the r9 390x is worth considering

seasonic platinum 1000- $200

If you've got the budget, the best way to future proof is to buy the best you can get. Threw in the monitor for giggles, bu it would be a perfect match for the rest of the system.

Love the idea of the Xeon, but even though my budget is large, it's not THAT large :)

As for the EVGA Classified board, it's another case of loving the idea but being unsure whether the added cost is worth it compared to lower cost models.

Any thoughts on this monitor vs the one you recommended?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009728

The motherboard you linked seems a little odd, only available at one site?

Also based on several reviews it seems like the 5930k doesn't offer a huge performance boost over the 5820K, at least not for the additional $190 that it costs, hard to justify.

LOVE the look (and price) of that case!! Was considering the Define R4 or R5 before but I donno... Corsair might win it.

I really appreciate all the input guys. Things are coming along nicely. Considering options on sound cards as well, any thoughts on a good entry-level one?

no need for a sound card almost every mobo has a output of equal quality to a dedicated card

a 6 core isnt much overkill it will last many years and then programs will began using the 12 threads. plus its always nice to have extra cores if your doing anything other than gaming

Was hoping someone might chime in about new hardware. Is there a projected release date for them? Any links to info about them? 1-3 months was ballpark simply because I've been waiting 4 years to build a new pc, but if I need to wait another 6 for a sweet new cpu, I'll do it.

I found the best deals on gaming computers at cyberpowerpc. For $2,400 I got a case that met my personal likes and dislikes, including noise reduction and some extra fans, i7-6700 @ 4.0 gHz with liquid cooling, 32gb DDR4 @2800 RAM, a single air-cooled Nvidia Titan X with 12gb, , hybrid hard drive with 256 SSD and 1 TB mechanical, plus all the usual standard stuff. I ordered the Acer XB270HU bprz Black 27'' 144Hz WQHD with g-sync separately for $700. My wife insisted on an All-In-One and the only real choices there were from MSI via Newegg, but were not configurable. For $2,700 she's getting touchscreen 27" 1920x1080 (don't know refresh rate), i7-6700 at 3.4 gHz, 16gb DDR4 @2133 RAM, Nvidia GTX 980m with 8 gb, 256SSD + 2 TB, hard drive. Hope this info helps you make a better purchasing decision.
