I am currently working on purchasing all the parts required to build my half new half salvaged computer, and had some questions regarding this.

First of all, I was wondering if transferring the RAM (12GB DDR3) would be as simple as just removing and plugging it in.

Secondly, i need to know if removing the old hard drive and SATA cables from my current computer, and plugging them into my new computer would be that simple. Would i need to wipe it and buy a new version of windows? Is wiping it necessary?

Lastly, I would like to name the changes that my computer will be undergoing. Im planning on upgrading my motherboard from an unbranded prebuilt to an MSI Z97 ATX, my processor from an AMD A10-6700 to an I5-4690, my case from a prebuilt micro ATX to an MSI ATX mid tower, and my PSU from an unbranded 300W to a 650W fully modular 80+ Bronze.

With all of these upgrades in such a short amount of time, i would like to save some money and reuse the old HDD and SATA cables, and the RAM as well. Is this possible? Thanks a lot, and have a great day!

The ram will work if your new motherboard uses DDR3 ram

You would probably need to wipe it unless you are using the same processor and everything, which I doubt. You could take your files off of it first, however. Also, you wouldn't need to buy Windows if you purchased the key you used for your last system. If it was a prebuilt computer that came with windows, you sadly cannot use it

All of that is definitely possible. I'm using the old HDD from an old 2009 or so computer and it works fine. Consider getting an SSD for your boot drive, maybe 240gb, because it will open Windows and whatever applications you put on it MUCH faster than a hard drive!

Edit: After reading all that you said in the second to last paragraph: The ram should...

As long as you wipe the previous OS and install new you should be fine. While the system will work if you have just small changes from one system to another, it will never run optimally. In your case, with such a drastic hardware change, you will be wasting your time trying to make it work properly. In addition, if it was an OEM copy of Windoze, you will need a new license.
