Is it possible to set up this to connect to a linux machine and be able to capture my video so i can later transfer it to my windows pc? I dont have a long enough wire to connect my tv to the haughpauge and pc, hdmi or usb and i would like this to be a solution if possible. Thanks

How good are you in Linux?
You will face two problems there:
- finding drivers for Linux for that video grabber. If they are not in the kernel, your chances are very slim (as I said, Hauppage does not provide any)
- finding good video capture software which runs under Linux. While some apps do exist, they are far an between, so good Linux skills are a must.

Why you want to do that onto Linux? Last but not least - video capturing requires quite a good PC, especially with HD video.

Im dacent with linux since i have to use it at work every day. Linux is also free since I dont want to give microsoft more money for a small windows OS to use on a pc thats set only to record video. And the longer cables ive used for usb has caused a degrade in quality for recording. I cant get 40 feet of usb for connecting to my pc as thats too expensive/too long. I also can not move the desk as its at the only other power plug on the wall where i live.
