I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E540 with 4GB of RAM that I'm looking to upgrade. I used Crucial's tool here and found that there are several different kinds of RAM that I can get, like DDR3L PC3L and DDR3 PC3. Is there a difference between them? Should I open my computer and see exactly what kind is in it?

Also, I heard that generally you want to use two cards of the same the same size; i.e. if I were to buy only one more card, it should be another 4GB one so that they're both the same. True? I want a bit more than 8, but I think 16 would be overkill. Would I be fine just buying an 8GB card to run with the one I have?

Lastly, is this the same as the 8GB cards on Crucial? If so, it'd save me a quite a bit of money.

Thanks.

That's what i was going to do, but TD recently changed their return policy to not allow returns unless the item is damaged. Boo! So yeah, that's why I'm asking here first to make sure.

So, it has a Samsung 4GB stick of DDR3L RAM. What do I need to do to get the best performance? Do I need to get another 4GB stick (or two 8GB sticks) to allow it to run dual-channel? Do I need another Samsung chip, or can I use a Crucial one?
