Gigabyte 390x or GTX 970 (any brand)

So I just finished building my mITX and all I have left to install is the graphics card. Due to the size of the case (Thermaltake Core V1), I have narrowed it down to this two cards: Any GTX 970 will fit for the most part, leaning towards MSI, or the R9 390x, Gigabyte is the only one that will fit the case. They both cost about the same, maybe $10-$20 difference. Which do you think would be the wiser choice? Pairing it with an i5-4690k CPU and EVGA SuperNOVA 650 PSU.

PS
I know this is a mITX but not sure how familiar you are with this case, but believe it or not, this case runs very cool, it has ventilation in all panels, it is really incredible.

I don't think you want a 390X in a mITX case. They're just too hot. A GTX 970, on the other hand, will generate less heat and be less stressful on your system. It will also allow you inside the Nvidia ecosystem, with better game compatibility, better driver support, better software extras, and more unique graphics settings.
390x is generally considered a bit of a waste as it doesn't add THAT much over the 390 for so much more cash.

The 390 and 970 trade blows...there was one YouTube video where in 22 games they each won 11 - depends on the game.

At higher resolutions 1440+, the 390 may just edge ahead but the 970 can be OC'd nicely and also consumes less power, so is more efficient.

However, users have reported issues with the 3.5gb fast and 0.5gb slow VRAM in some games (Black ops 3 I think whereby lots of VRAM is used and the 390 8gb's wins out.)

I did a lot of research before getting my 390 and I am super pleased with it with a nice OC. The 970 is a solid choice also.

FWIW, the 390x is more on the 980's level.

The 390x is a better card than the 970. And for 20£ more it is more than worth it I would say. Over here (UK) there is a big price difference.

BUT the 970 is better on power (50 watts less consumption). That GTX you linked is decent. IF you go 390x, MSI or Sapphire are good.

Microcenter guy said the same thing, I got the MSI GTX 970 Gaming instead for $305 after rebate. I added the two year warranty with them so guess what's coming back in about 20 months from now to be replaced? :)
