Hey guys, so I have 4gb of DDR3. I play a lot of Minecraft and up until recently I started running into problems with memory. I tried allocating 2gb of ram to minecraft, but it wont let me. Minecraft crashes and says something about not enough memory. My computer says I have 3.25gb usable. Why wont Minecraft let me allocate 2gb of ram?

Solution
Chances are you minecraft is running 32 bit Java. If it is the minecraft version that does not require you to download it separately, then get the 64 bit installer. If you needed to install Java separately, uninstall your current version and download the 64 bit ( offline version ) from java's website.

I just looked at my RAM usage on minecraft, with all settings maxed out, using the server Hypixel. It was pretty much constantly under 1GB. I would just try to steer clear of HD texture packs and download optifine.
