I'm getting a new motherboard and CPU. I've heard http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-Z97-PC-Mate-Motherboard/dp/B00K8KLW3G/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0K59D5AR6213BC6Y635X with http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-16PK-R1-Performance-Universal/dp/B0068OI7T8/ref=pd_sim_147_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=51BtlnPPHSL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR143%2C160_&refRID=18K8D7W4VTVMM5GEW9P2 and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-4690K-Processor-LGA1150-Socket/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1452363527&sr=1-2&keywords=CPU are a good combination together and the CPU allows for some decent overclocks. Other people have been recommending I spend a bit more and get an i5-6600k with a new motherboard. Does the Skylake build require DDR4 ram or would it run fine with me DDR3 ram? Also, if the Skylake system would be better then can you give me some suggestions as to where to buy them from (not eBay please or any other second hand website). I don't mind if the Skylake system costs a little bit more if it means it will be more 'future proof'. Thanks in advance!

Yes. The one you chose is about as weak as you can get if you want to overclock. Budget MSI board are very cheap. I would prefer better than I suggested, but I assumed that your budget was very limited. There's nothing I would want to use under 100 pounds, and I'm not very picky.
The initial combination of parts is a bit too low-end for my taste. They will all fit together and do what you want, but not as well as I would want. However, better costs more. The CPU is fine, and I have overclocked mine to 4.8Ghz. The cooler is a bit light weight for that good an overclock. If you are happy with 4.4Ghz, then fine, otherwise, I'd get something a bit better.

This is the minimum configuration I'd look at
