I just recently bought a toshiba canvio 1tb portable hdd and it had the option when i set it up to add a password so i did. It works just fine on that pc but when i plug it into another it doesnt give me an option to type in a password so I cant access the hard drive

Plug it back in to the original PC and remove your password.
You should then be able to access it on any PC.
Not advisable to password-protect a drive in case it locks you out.
Far better to lock the drive away out of sight if it contains sensitive data.
One other thing, one drive is not sufficient. You need a second one as a backup.
