I recently bought this pc - http://www.cybertronpc.com/customkititems~kc~gmhelz170025bl~group~play~cat~gamers.htm with a z170-XPSLI Motherboard
And i am looking to upgrade the ram from 8gb to 12gb. Now, this computer will arrive to me this coming Monday so for those asking "why don't you know what type of ram that comes with your computer?" well that's because the website doesn't specify what type of DIMM i need to get. I prematurely bought a 4gb stick of UDIMM 2133, pc4-17000 memory becuase on the website it says that the ram in it is pc4-17000 and 2133, so i had the option to either buy UDIMM, SODIMM, or RDIMM. Now i am very confused on this topic of ram as i have tried to read other forum posts about compatibility. Can anyone tell me if these 3 are interchangeable? So if i open up my computer and see the ram is RDIMM, or SODIMM, i know either to return the UDIMM ram or use it with it. Thanks

Solution
UDIMM and RDIMM usually refer to server memory where U = Unbuffered or Unregistered and R = Registered. Unbuffered (UDIMM) is what is usually in our normal desktop computers. SODIMM is a smaller form factor of memory used in space limited devices like laptops and notebooks, etc. The UDIMM stick you bought should be the right one
