How should I upgrade my pc, new cpu and mobo or just a whole new build?

I have an amd a8 5600k and I am using an xfx radeon hd 7950 gpu. I would like to know what the best upgrade would be for me as I would like to play high end games at a decent framerate. Also I have a 550 watt psu which I could upgrade but would prefer not to.

Probably CPU, and possible PSU. Depending on which game, you might want to upgrade your GPU instead.

For a cpu and motherboard I would spend £200-£300 but for a new build I would save up for a bit and have a £700 budget.

A friend suggested a Z97 mobo but is the h97 plus better?

Depends on what CPU, Z97s can OC the K model CPUs via the multiplier, the CPU i suggested is a non-K for budgetary reasons. COuld get Z97 with the goal of CPU upgrade down the road
