I have a i7 4790k with stock cooler (I know it sucks) i ordered a new cooler (212 evo) when i noticed i got to 100 degrees celsius. I wont use my pc until i get the new cooler. it was 100 degrees for about 5 minutes. Did it hurt my cpu?

Solution
The CPU would have throttled to save its self, a short burst at a high temperature will not damage the CPU. You could try reapplying the thermal paste and make sure the cooler is seated properly in the mean time, if that lowers your temps (it should) you'll be able to use the PC while you wait for it to arrive.

The stock Intel cooler isn't actually bad and should run most Intel processors fine for years at stock speed. I think something has gone wrong upon installing the Intel stock cooler. Idle temps should be no higher than 35-40 degrees, whilst load shouldn't be higher than 65 degrees.

Thanks! Will the 212 Evo cover a 100% load

It all depends on the temps at 100% load. Intel stock cooler does 60-65 degrees in 100% load if installed properly, which is by far already good enough to cover that. CPU temps below 75 degrees are good.

With Hyper 212 Evo it should be around 45-50 degrees 100% load.

Ok thanks! im not going to put on 100% load until i get the 212 just to be safe!

At stock, my CPU reaches a max temp of 57c under Prime95 using the Hyper 212, the i7 will usually run a bit hotter but it will handle stock at acceptable temps.
