I have a similar issue to what this person has - http://ccm.net/forum/affich-39778-network-connected-internet-no-dns
I tried to connect to the internet but literally instantly it comes up with a problem saying something like “can't reach the DNS probe”. I tried the solution the top commenter suggested with the commands, Ipconifg /all and ipconfig /flush dns working except ipconfig /renew comes up with an error saying "no operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected" and ipconfig /releasel coming up with an error saying it is an unrecognised command, I tried ipconfig /release as well.
Then when I enter the last two commands the first one (netsh int ip set dns) says “one or more essential parameters were not entered"
And the last command (netsh winsock reset) works but requires a computer restart, I did this but I still can't connect to any websites. I am connected to my router and it says I have a strong connection, after all of this I tired the solution a couple of comments down:
"1.Go to control panel.
2. Then Network and Internet
3.Then click on Network and Sharing Center.
4.Then click change adapter settings
5.Then double click on the adapter you use for your internet.
6.click properties, then double click internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
7.Then click on the circle where you see "Use the following DNS server addresses"
8. Put 8.8.8.8 in the box that says perferred DNS server.
That will make Google your default DNS server.
Hope it resovles your problem."
and it worked, I can connect to the internet now, this is how I'm typing this post here, however this doesn't seem like a permeate solution but a temporary bypass or something similar, is this a proper solution or should I do something else?
I tried running a network trouble-shooter and it came up with this issue, "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer", the trouble-shooter could not fix the issue. All of this started when I started using a VPN to change my IP address, I bought the VPN called "IPVanish" and it's been great so far, it worked fine for the couple of days I had it for before this issue arose,
