I need to create an XP rescue floppy for an old laptop and the only remaining floppy drive there is on the main machine is an IDE high caapacity Matsushita, which is assigned drive B:. The rescue creation facility xpboot.exe looks exclusively for an A: drive and therefore doesn't see the IDE floppy (which also doesn't appear in the P5Q Bios). Any ideas how to force A: on to the Matsushita?

Thanks in advance

It's been a long time since I've done anything with floppy drives, but IIRC, drive letter assignment is based on cable placement. On floppy cables with three connectors, there will be one for the motherboard and 2 for the drives, with the one for drive letter B: being the one in the middle and A: being the one furthest from the motherboard. Try changing the placement and see if that helps.
