I have a MSI micro atx board, the model is H81M-P33, and the back panel USB 2.0 ports are not working. However, the front panel USB 2.0 ports are working just fine. I was wondering what could be the problem here?

Yes, its a new build. They haven't worked from the start. Which drivers would they be, would it be the system and chipset drivers or the others drivers? I didn't download the on-board VGA drivers if that matters.

You should install all of the available drivers to make sure everything is working right, but the VGA driver is for graphics, so that shouldn't be causing the problem. The one you're looking for should be called "USB Root Hub" or something along those lines. What version of Windows are you using? I can try and find it for you.

Okay, I see what you mean now. MSI groups their drivers together for some reason. It could be in either System & Chipset or Other Drivers. If I were you, I'd just go ahead and download both. You need them both anyways.

I'm assuming you are talking about the back USB ports that are on your motherboard. Those are powered by the ATX power connectors from your power supply and should be working from the get-go.

I have one header called jusb_pw1, would that be it? I thought the 24-pin mobo power supply cable would take care of the usb power needs since the ether net and audio jack on the back panel work fine.

If you are talking about case USB ports, there's a case USB power cable, and it must be attached to the "JUSB1 or JUSB2" inputs at the bottom to the left of the SATA ports. But I've never had a problem with the motherboard USB ports in the back not working in a new build otherwise. The mouse and keyboard should be recognized in your BIOS screen before the operating system is even installed. I guess I'm not clear on what you mean by "front" USB vs. "rear" USB ports.

Alright, I see. Excuse my ignorance. I should have read the manual more carefully. It seems my power supply did not come with such a cable. However, shouldn't it be connected to the JUSB_pw1 header instead of the JUSB2? I use the JUSB1 header for the front panel USB ports.

Onboard USB ports DO NOT require external power. The 24-pin does take care of that. Also, you shouldn't need to uninstall anything, just redownloading and installing the drivers should take care of that for you.

Okay there was some confusion. There are two different USB "ports." The ones that are on the case itself (can be front and/or back, top, etc.) and the ones on the motherboard themselves. The case ones require the USB header connector to be plugged in. And that USB cable connector (9-pin) comes from the case, not the PSU. If it is not connected, you will not have power to the case USB ports as they are not run off the motherboard. Sorry about that.

So I have the chipset drivers already installed, but you say in order to reinstall the chipset drivers that all I need to do is install them again and I don't have to do anything with the currently installed drivers? That won't harm my machine?
