Asus X99-s, r9 290x...core i7 5930k....

right guys asus state my mobo has gen3 pcie slots
my graphics card states gen3 support,
my processor is 40 lane more than capable...

my R9 is running at pci-e2.0 16x only...which is gay..
my bios doesn't seem to have the setting/option for gen3 in pci-e configuration?? an only lets me see gen 1 & 2.......I have the latest bios update....

how do I get the board or gc to realise gen3..????so I can use the full potential of my technology!??

thanks in advance!

Well TBH even a 980ti doesn't fully saturate a PCI-e 2.0 slot so you aren't missing a single FPS from the 2.0 slots. But I'll see what I can find about the MoBo issue.

What are you using to monitor? If using GPU-z, click the ? next to Bus interface and read what it says. Try the render test see if it changes, may take 30seconds for it to refresh. The test just keeps going so watch out for the refresh blink of the Bus interface value to see what it's still reading it as.

How do you know it's using PCI-E 2.0? Start GPU-Z and check the "Bus interface" section. Press the question mark right beside it for a short explanation on modern GPU power saving modes and press the "Start Render test" button to spur your GPU up to it's highest PCI-E speed.

Also in the motherboard setup program (formerly known as BIOS), be sure to choose "AUTO" for PCI-Express bus setting.

Even if all that doesn't produce results, you can happly use your R9 290X at PCI-E 2.0 16x speed without any problem.

As I'm typig this, my GTX960 is working at x16 PCI-Express 1.1 but it kicks to x16 3.0 in games.

Edit: motherboard BIOS only let you set to 1.0 or 2.0 for compatibility with OLD GPUs and you should use the "Default" or "Auto" setting instead.

on gpuz it says gen3 supported...
but when idle it runs at pcie 1.1 to conserve power usage......then bumps upto 2.0 for the render test..or when the gpu is under load..........but still no gen3 ??

"PCI-E 3.0 x 16 @ x16 2.0" = what GPUZ says right now!

still no sign in bios just gives options for gen 1&2...

do I have to change summit else in the x99 bios to get the gen3 option to show in pci-e configuration? so all 3 option will be available (gen 1,2 an 3......instead of just gen 1 & 2)

also bios setting for gen rev was already set to auto,,,although I had tried manually!
??

lolol.....I would love to but this is nagging me now! I'm probably gunna have to wiat for a silly bios update till I can get that feature in the bios! maybe ASUS have blocked it out for some reason till a later bios release?? dunno.................plus I'm bored of my games HA!......

I'm trying to pick my brain about getting a 1:1 or as close as possible fsb to dram ratio........you got any input on that!??

it looks like the option to select gen3 in the bios of x99 boards has been removed or hidden by asus, as I cannot find the option to set it manualy from gen 2 to 3 on my x99 with r9 290x either...its annoying..(only have gen 1 &2 as an option no gen 3 is present in the bios: I have latest bios update)
yes I get that pci-e2.0 is more than sufficient...but that just isnt the point...I should expect to get these features if they are available on the technology (i.e. mobo)! ......but looks like we may have to wait till gen3 gets more popular an asus give a bios update to unlock the feature to work on the board!! either that or their has to be summit in the bios that needs changing to allow gen3 to appear as an option!!.....maybe somebody should message Asus an find out lol!

and nah buggar it...give up for now... I'm hungry!:)
